You can't really go wrong with a good disaster flick, in Goku's opinion. There's always a human element (heroes rise in times of crisis), maybe a little romance, and then there's the main event: the catastrophic fury of nature that threatens to level an entire city. Or continent, or planet, depending on the scope. This movie was particularly good because it was in partial immersion VR, so you could really feel like you were part of the action as the earth split open under your feet. Awesome.

Hopefully, his date thought so too, because these things are always lots more fun when you're with someone you like. The audience had roared its approval at the end with applause.

"What'd you think?" he asked with enthusiasm as the lights went up.

Picture prompts: one, two, three, four, five

Disaster flicks were not Ouka's cup of tea, though credit should be given to any guy who at least understands that dinner and a movie is a classic outing. Unoriginal, maybe, but safe. And if she's honest with herself, neither she nor anyone else would date Goku with reasonable expectation of an evening with the kind of suave romancer who would opt for a movie targeted to the female audience. Goku's selling points were sincerity, openness, a love of fun, an easygoing nature, and a goofiness about him that was sort of adorable. More than sort of.

She puts a finger to her chin in thought as Goku asks her opinion on the movie.

"Well. You realize you're talking to a professional, right? The special effects were gimmicky and sent the plot to the backseat. The director did a decent job with use of the camera, which helped compensate a bit for the mediocre acting." She pauses for a couple of seconds, then allows a smile.

"But for all its technical shortcomings, it was fun to watch. I'd rank it a B."

"Huh. I thought the acting was okay," Goku says thoughtfully. But he's not much of a judge on that, really. He has the tendency to immerse himself into these movies (especially when they're on the extra big screens that make you feel like you're right there). The acting always feels real enough to him, unless it's very very bad. And even then, he can enjoy it.

"B is still pretty good though, right? Hehe."

Ouka seems like the very critical sort, so he thinks that anything that gets a B from her is probably better than average?

'Okay' is exactly the word for the acting. Not terrible, but no one would be getting nominated for special awards for this movie. Ouka was ready to bet money on that much. But then, as she said, she had a different perspective from being in the business, and she fancies herself to have a discerning eye for quality in general besides.

"Yeah. I had fun," she repeats cheerfully. Because really, there's no sense in harping on the shortcomings. She's given her critique.

"You look like you enjoyed it, too."

That's okay, special awards don't really much a whole lot to Goku. As long as you have fun watching it, that's all that matters, right?

And if Ouka also had fun, that's a good thing too. He smiles brightly.

"That's good! Hey, you wanna get ice cream or something? I know this place down the street. They've got the best cherry flavor!"

"Ice cream! Yeah, let's go try it."

Ouka playfully hooks her arm around Goku's and leans a bit of her weight against him as they walk as a substitute for a hug.

"I'll need you to escort me home after that. I'm meeting a new actor tomorrow to show him the steps to a fight scene. I have to be at my best for a first impression!" She winks.

"Fight scene?"

Goku looks very interested! He's kind of geeky about this sort of thing. He's an avid fan of action movies, and knows a few moves himself.

"What kind of a fight scene? Who's the actor?"

"I'm not allowed to say yet. They haven't publicly announced the casting. The fight scene is between a guy with cybernetic implants in his leg to restore motor control to it and a tech gangster who hacks it to leave it immobile. It's quite a challenge to choreograph a fight for someone with only one working leg! But I like it. It's good to push your creative limits."

"Whoa, that's so cool!"

Goku likes all kinds of martial arts. He does favor the kind that's all kick-ass kung-fu in the traditional sense, only because you can never get tired of people putting on a beat-down with the barest of forms.

Still, the flair and excitement of a robotic fight and hackers definitely adds some flavor.

"Maybe you can sneak me onto the set sometime?" he asks with his very best please? face.

"Hm. Maybe~," she grants. "It depends on what's going on and whether the director is okay with guests being around. Tomorrow is no good. But I'll ask him about a visit!"

Bringing a friend to work does sound kind of fun, after all. She could show Goku her 'office' which is more like a sectioned-off area with a desk and an open floor space, and he could get a feel for how choreography gets integrated into a scene.

"Cool! You've got like, the best job ever."

Well actually no...the best job ever would be to get paid for eating. Some people do, as he well knows. Goku has even participated in a few eating contests himself. But he's not sure he can make a living off of that.

They reach the ice cream shop, which is really just a tiny building with a few benches outside for sitting. He glances at the menu.

"Ooh. There's a new peanut butter and marshmallows flavor."

Peanut butter and marshmallow? Yuck. At the very least, that needed some sort of complement to the peanut butter. Chocolate or strawberry or apple or oatmeal cookie. Even banana.

"Get what you like. I'm not eating that, though."

She walks down the display case, checking over the flavor options and considering pair-ups.

"I want one scoop of peach and one of raspberry swirl, topped with walnuts."

Hey Goku loves the idea of peanut butter and marshmallow. He likes both, so why not together? So he orders that one.

"Yours looks really good too!" he says with the sparkly eyes he gets when looking at delicious things.

Yona could not say that nature was her niche.

Nature looked beautiful in pictures. Lush green forests, crystal clear springs, breathtaking canyons, colorful sunsets, majestic mountains. It was easy to get sucked into the beauty of it and not understand just how unpleasant it could be to visit in person.

Yona's feet hurt. They feel blistered and sore and swollen and in dire need of a cool soak. The sun isn't warm enough to make up for the chilly breeze and the bugs.... god the bugs. They're everywhere and some of them are loud and some of them swarm in front of her face and some are lurking in places she'd never expect them to surprise her. Squirmy, slimy, creepy, crawly bugs!

And to top it all off, the humidity is making her hair even more unmanageable than usual.

"Gokuuuuuuuu," she whines. "How much farther? Aren't we to the end of the trail yet?"

It's been twenty whole minutes. She refuses to even contemplate the prospect of having to walk back.

Nature is definitely Goku's niche! Or so he'd say, if he was asked. Sunshine, blue skies, tall trees to climb on, what's not to love? He always feels so small when he looks out into the valley from the top of this hill, which is why he's taking Yona there today. They would've been there by now, but they've had to take lots more breaks than usual. He's been eying the dwindling supply of food and water with some worry, but is hopeful that they'll make it there soon. There's a good rest-stop there that serves up fresh tako-yaki and noodles, but they have to get there, first.

"Ooh."

He stops walking and glances at her with surprise. They just rested a few minutes ago!

"Uh, it's a little further. Did you wanna sit down again?"

Yona releases a wordless whine in response and looks around.

"Where is there to sit?" The rocks were freezing and hard and pointy. The ground was covered in dead leaves and dirt and bugs. Actually, there is a much better idea that both gives her a comfortable place to rest and helps them get there faster. She holds out her arms expectantly with a pout.

"Carry me."

There are plenty of places to sit! In Goku's opinion, anyway. That soft looking patch of grass, or that nice large boulder. But before he can helpfully point out those things, she holds out her arms instead.

"Uh."

Well, okay? Maybe this is quicker anyway. Goku shrugs and turns his back and offers it to her, crouching.

"Here, climb on."

The good news is that Yona is petite and reasonably lightweight. Yona settles herself on Goku's back and holds onto his shoulders, and... yeah, that's better! She's happy now. She smiles and gives him a little hug of thanks from behind.

"I'm ready."

"Okay!"

Wow she weighs like nothing! This shouldn't be too hard, right? Anyway, maybe she'll enjoy things better from this new perspective. He was afraid she wasn't having any fun.

"I hope you like tako-yaki! There's this great stand up there that's so good."

Yona in fact does enjoy this rather more now that she isn't walking. There are still bugs, and her hair is still out of control, but it's a bit warmer being right up next to Goku like this, and of course her feet have finally gotten relief. She'll take it.

"I love tako-yaki! Do they have other things to eat too?"

"Uh huh. They've got fried noodles, and pork dumplings, and shave ice..." Lots of stuff! Goku is kind of an expert on the best of street food.

"And the view's kinda great, too. You can see all the way to the next town from up there!"

"It sounds so good! I can't wait to try it all..." The view, too, but priorities: food.

"You'll hurry there won't you?"

"Okay!"

Honestly, all this talk of food has gotten him very motivated. If Yona is hungry too, then all the more urgency, he thinks! He hurries along, skipping ahead as if he's got no weight on him at all.

He points ahead when he can see the top of the hill.

"It's up there!"

"Yay! I knew I could count on you~." And she gives Goku another little hug from behind. She's not getting down yet, though-- it's comfy up there!

"I want lots of hot things! It's cold out here and I need things to warm me up...!"

"You wouldn't be so cold if you were hiking," Goku says with a smirk. Trust Goku to be bluntly honest on a date. But it's not like he knows how to lie with delicacy, as some boys might.

But he's not saying it to be mean, either. Anyway, he doesn't mind carrying her. He's always been good at this sort of thing at least?
